SPRING SHOW AND RESULTS SATURDAY 8TH APRIL, 2017
The Bidborough Gardening Association Spring Show was held on the 8th April in the Village Hall. It was a glorious Spring day and it was a wonderful show. The hall was a riot of colour and the judges were delighted with the number and quality of the exhibits across the board. The members turned up in force with their entries and the hall was full of visitors during the afternoon. The President, John Perry, said it was the best show he had ever seen. Every season can be difficult and this year is no exception. All the early daffodils bloomed late and all the late varieties came early so that they all bloomed at the same time! In spite of that there were 420 entries in the Show, encompassing daffodils, tulips, spring flowering shrubs, homecraft, flower-arranging and children’s classes. The trophy winners were John Johnson with the Chairman’s Challenge Shield for the best exhibit of daffodils, Judy Liddall with the Bronze medal for the best single daffodil bloom, Gillian Ham with the Royal Silver Jubilee Trophy for her single camellia bloom, Diana Barber with the Vicki Beynon Memorial Trophy for the best flower arranging exhibit, Sarah Smith with the Elizabeth Tilt Trophy for the best homecraft exhibit, Lucy Oatley (aged 8)with the Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society Junior Award for the best junior horticultural exhibit and Rebecca Lash (aged 12) won the £5 gift token for the highest total points by a junior exhibitor.
