This years summer outing was a trip to the OneGardenBrighton situated in Brighton’s largest park, Stanmer. 33 BGA members attended, which was organized by Hazel and Glenys.
The Park, just outside the town has had the garden restored over many years, and is managed by Plumpton College who run agricultural courses there.
We were met by Head Gardener, Peter Wood, who guided us around the walled garden, and many other themed ‘rooms’ for just over an hour. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to find so many lovely flowers, shrubs and trees thriving, despite the difficult conditions, although the grass was yellow and crispy, just like all of ours!
Peter’s talk was both interesting and entertaining, and was also very informative.
The site included a Butterfly House, OneCafe, where light refreshments are served, and just outside the entrance there is Stanmer Tea Rooms for hot and cold lunches/teas. There was also a good nursery for plant sales, a shop. All of these facilities were well used!
Everyone had a really good visit, and we had very good feedback from many that attended.
