Trip to the Cotswolds

Trip to the Cotswolds

Forty-seven members of the BGA visited the Cotswolds from 6th to 10th June 2018 staying at the Best Western Grosvenor Hotel in the centre of Stratford upon Avon. Over the 5 days we visited 7 gardens: – Upton House and Garden; Hidcote gGrden; Sezincote House and Garden; Bourton House Garden; Snowshill Manor House and Garden; Kiftsgate Court Garden; and Waterperry Garden. We also spent a relaxing afternoon exploring Stratford upon Avon, with some people cruising along the river, basking in the sunshine.

An enjoyable time was had by all, heightened by the glorious weather and some stunning Cotswold gardens, as can be seen by the photo’s below.

Visit to Longbarn

Visit to Longbarn

On Saturday 11th June a few of us visited Long Barn, near Sevenoaks, the former home of Vita Sackville-West.  A delightful garden set out in tiers.  Just managed to get round before the heavens opened!!

The Priory at Lamberhurst

The Priory at Lamberhurst

There were about 30 people on each of the visits to The Priory at Lamberhurst in June and we were very lucky that both afternoons were fine and warm. The garden was looking as lovely as ever, the roses and peonies were particularly beautiful.  Mrs McAlpine and her Head Gardener, Tilly, took

us on a tour of the garden and answered all our questions – mainly names of plants! Most people also went and had a look at the vegetable garden too.The afternoon ended with tea and delicious cakes being served while Mrs McAlpine continued to chat to us. Mr McAlpine also joined us for tea and

cake! The McAlpines were very appreciative of the monies raised for the Hospice from the 2 visits.
