Visit to Walmer Castle & Goodnestone Garden Summer 2019

On Sunday 4 August, BGA members enjoyed a trip to Walmer Castle and Garden and the nearby Goodnestone Garden. Walmer Castle originally a Tudor fortress, evolved into a stately home for the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports, and became the residence of famous names from the Duke of Wellington to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

Outside, the castle are over 8 acres of award-winning gardens, including the breath-taking Broadwalk and the serene Queen Mothers Garden. Surrounding this area are the tranquil parkland/woodland, including the newly opened Glen, a planted former chalk quarry.

Goodnestone Garden is a haven of beautiful tranquillity, a formal walled garden dating back to the 17th century. This comprises of three components comprising a rose garden, herbaceous borders, vegetable potager and a water feature.
